Cory Doctorow's Austin Talk
Friday, September 27, 2002
7PM at the ACTLab, University of Texas at Austin
26th and Guadalupe. 4th floor, studio 4B. 471-6619
The new! improved! 21st century version of EFF-Austin has organized an evening with national EFF's Outreach Coordinator, Cory Doctorow. Cory's better known for his prolific posts to the bOING bOING weblog, and as an award-winning author of science fiction (including his upcoming novel, Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom.) His personal web site's at http://www.craphound.com.
Cory's subject will be Hollywood's Legislative Agenda. Hollywood's spokesmen and lobbyists are unabashed in describing an agenda for technical reform that sets out a world where technologists must come on bended knee for approval for their designs, where your ability to record the real world vanishes if a copyright-indicating watermark is present, where the Internet is redesigned to set up chokepoints where traffic can be monitored for infringing activity. How did we get here? What can we do about it?
Sponsored by EFF-Austin, ACTLab, and ACLU-Texas.
